re enactments

guys,
id like to know how in saving private ryan
they made the combat seqences so life like with out actually getting blown to bits,did they also use re enactment societys for the vehicles and uniforms,and special effects
i was amased how they did a the bleeding scene when the medic is shot throught the stomach,and actually bled to death in their arms.
ive a idea for a movie, an idea at present only

at this stage, especially if you intend to direct your masterpiece, you only need to know what IS possible, not HOW it is possible.

write your script first. if it is your first screenplay, throw it away immediately and write it again.

look after the smaller details (ie story, script) and the bigger picture will take care of itself.

unless you want to be a special effects expert ... in which case disregard all above advice!!

the people were taken from the irish (i think) army, so i'd think some of the vehicles would be the same... dunno for certain though.

well,guys thanks for your im put,today i started to contact re enactment assoications
a.they have most of the equipment of the era
1940-44,including vehicles,uniforms,as for the efects i asked outa curiosity,more then any thing else,most of these people are mere
beings who dress up for fun at week ends but
they will be managable,especially as they hopefully give thier time and enthuasim freely,,,(hopefully,)as for a script i thought of some thing simple,and to use story boards, so every ones got the same idea,of whats going on...which basically they been orderd to recce the road ahead,they have no idea what's ahead of them,and they just arrived from england,they not parra's or commandos,just your bog standard infantryman
they not green troops,but they not combat harded troops either,i hope to use sheer terror,suprise with flash bangs gun fire explosions and see how they re-act,who will get a grip on the situation,who will panic
their be a patrol,of 8-men ,,,this is a idea
to test how things would go,be it for real,the rank will be from sargent down..to pvt,,,how i film,it and what ill use will be dependent of 8mm cameras i can get or 16mm
